Department of Missions: Asians Reaching Asians

The mission work of the Evangelical Congregational Church of India has been concentrating in Manipur and its neighboring states in the North East India and its surrounding countries of Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh for the past many years. Its work is mainly among the tribes and backward communities. Today more than one hundred and fifty missionaries are working in different parts of these regions resulting in a steady growth of the church.

Arunachal Pradesh has a total population of about 7,22,000 out of which 50% are Animist, 30% Buddhist, 14% Hindus. There are 24 tribal groups with many more sub-tribes. Today this region is considered to be most receptive to the gospel. We need more workers to penetrate this land with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The state of Assam has a total population of 2,22,00,000 out of which 95% are Hindus and Muslims. We have a Mission Center at Baihata Chariali near the city of Guwahati in a muslim dominated area. An English School has been established to educate the children and to be a medium through which to reach the people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

A Himalayan State between Tibet and India, Nepal is the worlds only Hindu Kingdom where Hinduism is accepted as the State Religion. The land is now open for the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Evangelical Congregational Church of Nepal continues to be a witness of the gospel in the region. Today with more than 1000 believers, it now has more than eleven local churches.
